Scarlet Sims (she/her) is a multidisciplinary and collaborative creative who focuses on storytelling and the visual illustration of social justice issues. As a writer for more than 20 years, Sims earned top awards for investigative journalism, including at the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette and earned a state Fellowship grant for her creative nonfiction work in 2010. Her artwork has included exhibitions that incorporated voice recordings of immigrant stories with 6-foot-tall, mixed-media portraits to build community empathy. In 2018, her work combined journalism with mixed-media portraits to showcase how the increased number of women in prison was impacting society. Sims lives in Little Rock, where she has been working to create a better creative-supported arts ecosystem statewide.
